What's the difference between T700 and 18K

2023-04-12

Carbon fiber is a high-strength, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant material made from carbonized fibers. It has a high specific strength and modulus, making it widely used in aviation, automotive, sports equipment and other fields. The preparation process of carbon fiber usually includes several steps: firstly, polypropylene or other polymer fiber-like materials are oxidized and then carbonized to obtain carbonized fibers; then the carbonized fibers are surface-treated by electrolytic oxidation; finally, composite materials are formed by weaving or laminating the treated fibers.

Carbon fibers, including 1K, 3K, 6K, 12K, 24K, 48K, etc. 1K means that a bundle of carbon fiber yarns contains 1000 carbon fiber strands: the higher the K number, the larger the diameter of the carbon fiber strand. 12K has the same strength as T700, and 18K has the similar strength as T800. T refers to strength, and 700 is the strength data of this specification. At present, the highest of T series is 1000, meaning that 100 meters of carbon fiber elongated by 1 meter under 700 tons of tension, that's why Torey named it t700.
